Siege of Petersburg Letter. 3-page letter written on lined bifolium stationery, Front of Petersburg, March 27, 1865, from A. E. Killmer to his cousin Caroline in Pennsylvania. He describes his "latest raid" that commenced on February 27th. "So this is the thirtieth day we are marching. We have now made upwards of seven hundred miles. Thus far we have captured 15,000 prisoners and twelve pieces of artillery... We are now to make a connection with Sherman's Army and the Army of the Potomack. Tomorrow we assume the march.... Shelling and picket firing is kept up almost continuously in front of Petersburg."
