Description:

Theodore Roosevelt Signed Book: Fear God and Take Your Own Part (New York: George H. Doran Company, 1916), first edition, 414 pages, orange cloth, 12mo (5.25" x 7.75"). A dynamic man, Roosevelt was Assistant Secretary of the Navy, but resigned to volunteer for the Spanish-American War, where he led his "Rough Riders" up San Juan Hill. He was Governor of New York and later McKinley's Vice President, becoming President when McKinley was assassinated. As President, he initiated the Panama Canal project, and negotiated the end of the Russo-Japanese War, for which he was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize, passed conservation legislation, and attacked business monopolies. He ran again unsuccessfully for the Presidency in 1912, where he survived an assassination attempt.

The book has a label on the front pastedown that reads: "The Christmas Cove Library (Founded by Larry Chittenden) Readers are invited to donate Autographed Volumes. This Book No. 525 was donated by". The label also shows pictures of other scenic places in Christmas Cove, Maine. In clear black ink is written: "Theodore Roosevelt Sept 10th 1918". Clearly, Roosevelt signed this label specifically for the library. The label has been glued into the front inside cover. Front hinge starting, offsetting from label. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
