Description:
Two flown to the moon items.
Apollo 14 Flown Large-Size Pilot's Preference Kit (PPK) Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. A Beta cloth bag, approximately 10" x 11.5" overall with a 2" gusset and a top flap with snap closure. A sewn-on tag has the printed information: "SEB 32100025-301/ S/N 1047". This kit was on board Apollo 14 during its expedition to the moon, January 31-February 9, 1971. Dr. Mitchell has boldly signed on the front: "This command module/ PPK was flown to the moon/ on Apollo 14/ Edgar Mitchell/ Apollo 14 LMP". The larger style of PPK was only flown on certain missions and only a very few have ever been offered at auction. Extremely rare, a great opportunity. Lightly soiled, otherwise excellent condition.

Checking inside this bag, we found an additional flown item had been left there. A small metal part, approximately 1.75" x 0.375" x 0.375" in size, with a printed part number of "SEB33100263-001". This was used as a clip to keep the tape inside a cassette (remember those?) taut during the flight. Likely inside this PPK since the mission in 1971.

Included with this lot is a signed letter of authenticity on his personal letterhead, stating (in part): "This document certifies that the accompanying Personal Preference Kit (PPK) S/N 1047 was flown aboard the spacecraft Kittyhawk on the Apollo 14 expedition to the moon which launched January 31, 1971, with Captain Alan Shepard as the commander, Commander Edgar Mitchell as Lunar Module Pilot, and Lt. Colonel Stuart Roosa as Command Module Pilot."
