Description:
Apollo 13 Flown Texas State Flag Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander James Lovell, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. A cloth Lone Star flag, 5.75" x 3.875" in size, that was carried aboard the April 11-17, 1970, flight of Apollo 13 along with crewmembers James Lovell, Jack Swigert, and Fred Haise. This was to be the third manned lunar landing until an onboard explosion two days into the mission caused the landing to be aborted. The astronauts endured great hardships but did return safely to earth, allowing the people of all nations to breathe a sigh of relief. Lovell has signed the flag on the red stripe: "Flown on board Apollo 13/ James Lovell". This is the first Apollo 13-flown Texas flag that Heritage has had the privilege to offer. Excellent condition.

Included with this lot is a signed letter of authenticity from Lovell on his company letterhead stating, in full: "I hereby certify that this Texas Flag was on board the Apollo 13 spacecraft. Apollo 13 perilous flight took off on April 11 and returned safely on April 17, 1970. This flag was from my personal collection of space artifacts and has been in my possession since the mission."
